First Generation Students: Be aware

 I confess to not having blogged here for quite a while.  I will be in the future--I'm doing some relevant writing.

My current research interest is gratitude, in general, in communication, in spiritual development, and in higher education.

Although not quite linked to that, this article is thoughtful and reminds us of "the secret life of college students."

Morning News, July 14: The Day After

 Many of us are glued to, or at least checking frequently, media accounts of the shooting last night.  Donald Trump is very fortunate, and I hope he sees the spiritual reality of this incident--his life was spared--and lives in gratitude.  He is not "lucky," he was saved from death or significant brain injury. It's hard not to predict this propels him to the White House, but just as no one expected the back lash toward Biden about his debate performance or this shooting, we cannot assume the future.  And of course, the incident will be investigated for a long time to come; the fact a sniper was even there is pretty disturbing. On the "Twitters" there were some funny memes about how the media's coverage. One large outlet I was checking last night, even with the very clear Fox News footage of gunshots and blood, wrote as a headline, "Secret Service interrupts Trump Rally." Post #1: Reflecting on a Semester from the Beginning

  After reading (partially) an article about reflective writing and teaching in the AAC&U publication, Liberal Education, I decided that I needed to do a regular and frequent reflective practice this semester. It is time, and I am trying to focus fully on my teaching—online and f2f—this semester, shake some things up, develop some empathy with boundaries for students, follow the science of learning, and mostly be fully aware and mindful. Truly, I have let overloads and extra responsibilities and my personal projects overshadow teaching and students. I am tired of that, and especially for my online students, it means I waste time from not being organized. This semester I have 8 classes. Yes, that’s too many, but let me explain. I am teaching the equivalent of four one-hour classes, so those are not the same as three-hour ones. My Quality Enhancement Plan Journey, and Yours

 I am currently the Chair of the Quality Enhancement Plan Committee at my institution. Unlike most, this is my second time. More on that later. I am going to be blogging about this experience, the good, the bad, and the .... well, not ugly.  The good and the bad will do. I hope to keep it neutral because I want to keep my job! (Just kidding. I don't engage in unprofessional social media posts, unlike some.....) But I'd like to start--with your comments. If you come here, post about your own QEP situation, please.  I do have to say I have a unique situation because most faculty/administrators don't lead a QEP effort twice.
