Just wondering?

Anyone else get that survey from Chronicle of Higher Ed about tenure of presidents?

I took it, although I couldn't answer every question. While I have my suspicions, I did want to skew the data with feelings rather than thoughts (I make a big distinction between the two even though it appears others do not do so any longer.)

Morning News, July 14: The Day After

 Many of us are glued to, or at least checking frequently, media accounts of the shooting last night.  Donald Trump is very fortunate, and I hope he sees the spiritual reality of this incident--his life was spared--and lives in gratitude.  He is not "lucky," he was saved from death or significant brain injury. It's hard not to predict this propels him to the White House, but just as no one expected the back lash toward Biden about his debate performance or this shooting, we cannot assume the future.  And of course, the incident will be investigated for a long time to come; the fact a sniper was even there is pretty disturbing. On the "Twitters" there were some funny memes about how the media's coverage. One large outlet I was checking last night, even with the very clear Fox News footage of gunshots and blood, wrote as a headline, "Secret Service interrupts Trump Rally." My Quality Enhancement Plan Journey, and Yours

 I am currently the Chair of the Quality Enhancement Plan Committee at my institution. Unlike most, this is my second time. More on that later. I am going to be blogging about this experience, the good, the bad, and the .... well, not ugly.  The good and the bad will do. I hope to keep it neutral because I want to keep my job! (Just kidding. I don't engage in unprofessional social media posts, unlike some.....) But I'd like to start--with your comments. If you come here, post about your own QEP situation, please.  I do have to say I have a unique situation because most faculty/administrators don't lead a QEP effort twice. Fear and Learning

I think about fear a lot.  I think fear explains our lives a lot more than we let it. I teach public speaking; tomorrow night my class is giving their first speeches and I have gotten the anxious emails about it.  One thing I am good at is making a comfortable atmosphere; however, I think there is also something to be said for just throwing them into the water and letting them sink or swim.  They almost always swim; it might not be a pretty breaststroke that will get them the gold medal, but they make it. Some learning theorists encourage that viewpoint.  Even Vygotsky's zone of proximal development is somewhat along that line.  I am now reading Parker Palmer's and Arthur Zajonc's book The Heart of Higher Education , which is partially a defense of integrative education.  What is that?  It's trying to get away from classroom-based, textbook-based, banking model (I call it tea pitcher model) type of education.  One argument against these meth...
